Do you have a button tin?
This one is my grans..my mum gave it to me a few years ago..its amazing and i can remember being small and sitting down to play with her buttons when she was mending some clothes.The buttons inside bring back wonderful memories for me..and it has also saved me as well from having to buy buttons.I have used it more times than i care to recall to quickly sew a button on a pair of trousers or skirts.
The girls have all gone through the stage of playing with them and sorting out the colours then the long task of putting them away again.My granddaughters now play with them..
I would not part with my tin..i add to it. Any clothes that are way to gone to be recycled have the buttons cut off and they are then cut up into rags for cleaning.My little grand daughters love this tin.
I am pretty sure they think they will find some treasure at the bottom. 
Some of these buttons i can remember being on my grans cardigans.
Its a handy thing to have.
